What this is

Adopt a Plant is a place where people give plants and cuttings to each other for nothing. Using it means you accept these terms.

Plants are free

Everything here is given away. Nothing is sold and no money moves through the app: there is no checkout, no payment provider and no fee, for you or for us.

A swap asks for another plant in return, never for cash. If anyone asks you to pay for a plant, do not pay, and report them.

Postage is the one real cost, and the two of you settle it between yourselves, outside the app. Plenty of people simply split it. Whatever you agree is your agreement, not ours.

The handover is between the two of you

Once a request is accepted, the arrangement is yours. The giver packs and posts the plant, or you meet and hand it over. We are not a party to that and we cannot make either side go through with it.

For a shipping adoption the adopter shares a postal address in the app and only the giver sees it. Use it for that parcel and for nothing else.

For a pickup, agree a time and place in chat, and pick somewhere you are comfortable meeting someone you do not know. The app stores nothing about where or when you meet, on purpose.

A plant is a living thing travelling in a box. Now and then one arrives unhappy. Be decent about it; that is the deal everyone here is making.

Your account

One account per person, with a display name people can actually address you by. What happens under your account is your responsibility.

A sign-in link is as good as a password. Do not forward it to anyone.

You need to be at least 16 years old to use Adopt a Plant.

Your photos and words stay yours

You keep ownership of everything you post: your photos, your listing text, your messages.

By posting it you give us permission to store, resize and display that content inside Adopt a Plant so the app can do its job, including showing a listing and its photos publicly. The permission is free of charge, lasts as long as you keep the content posted, and ends when you remove it, apart from backup copies that age out on their own.

Post only photos you took or are allowed to use, and do not post pictures of other people without asking them first.

How to behave

Be decent to people. No harassment, hate, threats or spam.

No selling, no advertising, and no using listings or chat to promote a business.

Post real plants and describe them honestly, including the sorry state of the ones that are in a sorry state. Do not list a plant you do not have.

Follow the plant health rules where you live. Listings stay inside one country, which keeps most of those rules simple, but protected or invasive species and anything covered by CITES are not for sharing here.

Do not try to work out anyone’s exact address, do not scrape the site, and do not run accounts or requests through scripts.

Reports, suspension and removal

Anyone can report a listing, a message or a member, and reports are read by hand.

We can hide or remove a listing and suspend or ban an account when these terms are broken. We will normally tell you why, and you can reply to hello@adoptaplant.eu if you think we got it wrong.

What we can promise, and what we cannot

This is a free service, run by one person on one server. We do our best to keep it up, backed up and safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults, and it may change or close. If it closes we will say so in advance and give you time to take your data with you.

We do not inspect plants, people or parcels, and we cannot answer for what members do with each other. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for a plant that arrives dead, a swap that falls apart or a parcel that goes missing.

Nothing here takes away the rights you have under Dutch or EU consumer law.

Law

These terms are governed by Dutch law, and disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands unless the law lets you go elsewhere.

If any part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force.

Changes

Meaningful changes are announced in the app before they take effect. Carrying on with Adopt a Plant afterwards means you accept the new version.
